Mr. L.L. Dalrymple began as an employee with the Texas Company in Jefferson, Texas in 1926. Mr. Dalrymple saw
there was a need for a fuels distributor in Atlanta, Texas. At that time the Texas Company did not see the need to
invest into this community, so Mr. Dalrymple himself borrowed the money, obtained property and built his own
warehouse and bulk storage station. The Texas Company then appointed Dalrymple as a consignee in 1929.
Dalrymple operated the company continuously until 1968. In 1968 Mr. Dalrymple was experiencing health
problems and thought it may be best to sell the business. N.L. Smith, a District manager with the Aetna Life
Insurance Co. stationed in Longview, Texas, was wanting to come back to his hometown and raise his family.
Smith also dreamed of a company his son's could grow up in by his side. So, with an appointment from Texaco
as Consignee, Smith purchased the Texaco Consigneeship from L.L. Dalrymple in July 1968. At the time of
purchase, Mr. Dalrymple agreed to stay with the company six months to aid in the transition of the business.
Six months went by and no one said anything about the time, and Mr. Dalrymple remained active in the business
until 1975. Smith's business grew from a very small one truck consigneeship to become the company it is today.
Smith was converted to a Texaco Distributor in 1975. Steven Smith, now president, worked in the company
part-time during high school and college years. He became active full time in the business after completing
undergraduate studies at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M University in 1980. Stuart Smith, now
vice president, also worked part-time during the high school and college years and also became active
full time after completing undergraduate studies at Oral Roberts University in 1983.
